German cartoonist, caricaturist, musician, broadcaster, raconteur, lecturer, prison visitor, and commissioner of compositions Gerard Hoffnung (1925-1959) went from schoolboy refugee in London to displaying a dizzying array of talents in his brief life. Whether or not Hoffnung actually wrote music, his influence generated a series of wildly successful comic concerts.
