French violin virtuoso and composer Jean-Marie Leclair (1697-1764) began his performing career as a dancer. Younger brothers Jean-Marie (the Younger), Pierre, and Jean-Benoît were also accomplished violinists and composers of sonatas. Leclair was murdered; many believe it was at a nephew's hand.
