Chinese and American Post-modern era composer Bright Sheng (1955-), or Sheng Zong-Liang in Chinese, faced the tremendous obstacle of the Cultural Revolution in his path to becoming a musician and composer. Because of his birthplace and his travels, he readily incorporates various eastern and western musical forms into his own works.
