Zwillich, Ellen Taaffe

Zwilich was born in 1939 in Miami, Florida. She attended Florida State University and Juilliard, studying composition with Roger Sessions and Elliott Carter. She was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize in music which she did in 1983 for Three Movements for Orchestra (Symphony no. 1).
